529. Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted

I defy anyone to leave Madagascar 3 without at least humming 'Afro Circus'.
Sure, this is a film for kids of all ages but Mrs W and I watched it without any young ones in tow yet we couldn't help ourselves.
If you've watched the previous incarnations of Madagascar you will know exactly what you're going to get.
Yes, our friendly animals are still hankering after a return to the zoo they left behind in New York.
This time, Alex the lion (Ben Stiller) persuades them to track down those pesky penguins to Monte Carlo where they and the chimps, are making hay at a casino.
This storyline doesn't bear too much scrutiny because if the friends could make it to Monaco one might ask why they needed the penguins' plane to get back to New York but, hey, this is a world where animals talk and so let's not allow reality to get in the way of a good story.
So, the plan is to get back to America but there is a complication in the shape of animal catcher Captain Chantel DuBois (Frances McDormand).
Her chase leads the pals to take refuge in the circus.
There they meet some new friends and suddenly find themselves flying the trapeze and walking the tightrope.
Fun, friendship, great gags and fast chase scenes are the hallmark of this franchise and all are key to this fast-flowing picture.
We giggled a few times but what we thought of it was less important than the view of the little ones in the audience and they were loving it.
This didn't surprise me too much because I had already heard kids laughing like mad during trailers before movies throughout the summer.
The big question is...are we set up for Madagascar 4? You betcha.
Laughs: Four out loud for us - loads more for the kids
Jumps: none
Vomit: none
Nudity: none
Overall rating: 8/10
