530. Pusher
The concerted attack on the everyfilm list continues unabated and this was another late showing which we needed to attend to prevent Pusher slipping from my grasp.
And, fortunately, this had a bit more about it than your average British crime flick.
Normally, I loathe movies about drug dealers because I fear they might glamourise the filthy trade.
Pusher doesn't. Ok, the dealer (Richard Coyle) is probably more likable than most and there is a feeling that we should be on his side for a while.
But drugs tend to make life go off the rails and Frank's certainly does, in spades.
One minute he is the popular cheeky chappie who seems to be in control, the next he is a desperate scrounger who loses his friends and even tries to sponge of his estranged family to save his skin.
Director Louis Prieto has created a film which explores the underbelly of London and grips throughout.
It is an urban film but, thankfully, none of the characters are afflicted by that awful mock Jamaican accent which seems to infest so many British movies.
In fact, it is the normality of the players, particularly those of Coyle and his girlfriend (Agyness Deyn), which make it work.
We came away agreeing with 6.5/10. Another surprisingly pleasing thriller.
Laughs: none
Jumps: none
Vomit: none
Nudity: yes
Overall rating: 6.5/10
