648. Dabangg 2
Well, here was a first: never before have I been given a warning over my personal safety before watching a movie.
But one of my regular Bollywood correspondents was concerned that I might fall victim to an overexcited crowd at Nottingham Cineworld on Sunday afternoon.
Indeed, I must admit it was busy... very busy. From toddlers who arrived in pushchairs to old grannies (or aunties, as they call them in India), there was clearly a deep desire to see Salman Khan show off his muscles against the bad guys.
Khan is the merciless copy, Chulbul Pandey who trashes villains with guns, sticks, clubs, boots and punches.
He wastes no time on negotiation - especially if the bad guys make the mistake of threatening his family.
Within a couple of minutes of the opening in this film he is flying through a brick wall in a jeep in order to rescue a kidnapped schoolboy, gunning down his captors in the process.
However, his lust for blood is far from sated.
Following the killing of a murder witness, his biggest target becomes a local underworld leader played by Prakash Raj.
This is a battle which gets personal, threatening to embroil Pandey's wife (Sonakshi Sinha), step-father (Vinod Khanna) and brother (Arbaaz Khan). Thus, the violence ratchets up even further.
Dabangg 2 is Bollywood down to a tee.
Khan hams up its hero, its heroines are very beautiful, its villains are without conscience, its action is relentless while its song and dance routines are full of energy (less than a week after commenting that I have seen no actress more than Kareena Kapoor in 2012, she makes another cameo here).
Apparently, crowds in other cinemas have been cheering and even jostling each other which prompted my safety warning.
I am glad to report that they remained excited but restrained on Sunday afternoon in Nottingham.
Nevertheless, I am sure they got just what they expected from Salman Khan.
